• Welcome to My Creative Year!

Thanks so much for coming to see what I've been up to. I'm in the midst of a self-challenge to *create* for a year straight. I needed something to fill a weird void I was feeling, and exploring different styles of art and creativity seems to fit the bill! So, Welcome! I'm glad you've come for a visit...
  • Heartfelt Thanks

I don't always have a chance to thank everyone who leaves such lovely comments on my projects. I just want to express my appreciation for your encouragement and compliments on my creative journey. You are all greatly appreciated!

For the first time in many months, I have an entire weekend free.  100%.  All to myself.  My lovely logger man (LLM)  is going to spend the weekend doing some hardcore hunting in the high country – and frankly, I’m just not in the mood to hike my arse off trudging after him.  So I’m sending him hunting, and I’m gearing up to do some serious Christmas crafting and tea drinking. I also want to check out an old pioneer cemetery up the road from my house.  Just to see what it’s all about.

I picked up some Freecycled fabric on my way home from work today.  A few different patterns of cotton (plaids, checks and even some Batik), and a huge piece of cream colored jersey.  Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet, but I’ll do something.  The jersey would make a nice soft circle skirt – with plenty left over for another project (or two!)  I also stopped at Wally-World to pick up a bigger storage container for my fabric.  I had a one-drawer rubbermaidy thingy, and it just wasn’t nearly big enough for all my fabric, yarn and other sewing goodies.  So I picked up a three-drawer one and sorted my fabric by styles: cottons, linens and wools, fancy-schmancy stuff, fleece and flannel.  Now I have four drawers and nothing is squished anymore.  I just spent the last half-hour organizing all my crafting stuff.  It feels good.

So on the list for this weekend:

  • A felt crown
  • Blankets, sleeping bags and a tent for some very special stuffed animals
  • A couple patchwork scarves
  • A couple aprons
  • A re-do of the cup cozy (if I can get that right, I might do a few of them… good stocking stuffers)
  • Handmade gift tags
  • Burn a bunch of CDs
  • Mittens (I found some wool felt!!!  A lovely mottled green and some grey.)
  • And maybe a self-indulgent embroidery project

There may end up being more on the list – but I’ll start with these things.  I also need to find a pattern for a boys’ bath robe.  My nephew wants a new one made out of terry cloth, and since he’s really into knights and medieval stuff, I thought I’d make it look like a king’s robe.  He’s the one getting the felt crown too.  🙂  If I can find a nice store-bought one, I might do that, then just embellish it lavishly.  We’ll see – I’ll have to think about this one.  But the robe will be a big project – so I’m going to start with the smaller ones first – to get them out of the way.

I need to think about what to do for my lovely logger man for Christmas.  I was definitely thinking about making him a camouflage BBQ apron with “Canyon Man” embroidered on the front.  It’s kind of an inside joke – but I think it would be fun.  But I need to do something else too.

So this is my to-do list for the weekend.  I’m very excited about having a couple days to start some projects.  I was thinking about taking a couple-few days off after Thanksgiving to work on some of this stuff.  But this weekend will definitely give me a jump start.

Enjoy your weekend – do something creative!  🙂
