• Welcome to My Creative Year!

Thanks so much for coming to see what I've been up to. I'm in the midst of a self-challenge to *create* for a year straight. I needed something to fill a weird void I was feeling, and exploring different styles of art and creativity seems to fit the bill! So, Welcome! I'm glad you've come for a visit...
  • Heartfelt Thanks

I don't always have a chance to thank everyone who leaves such lovely comments on my projects. I just want to express my appreciation for your encouragement and compliments on my creative journey. You are all greatly appreciated!

Reliquary a la Mom

Two weeks in the making to celebrate and honor the memory of my Mother, my reliquary is finally complete.

Reliquary Cover

There are two inside spreads, each of which has an embellished notch with a rememberence of my Mom.  The inside front cover holds a religious metal of the Virgin Mary, and the inside of the back cover holds a picture of my Mom standing up for someone’s wedding back in the 50’s or early 60s.  (edit: my Sister tells me it was my Mom’s oldest sister, Kay’s, wedding.)

The Metal Spread Virgin Mary metal

After my Mom passed away, my Sister and I shared a lot of the keepsakes and mementos she had collected over her lifetime.  Among the trinkets in my box of memories is a virtual pile of little religious metals my Mom had collected while she was in Catholic school.  I used one of the Virgin Mary to sew to some gold fabric inlaid into the cover notch.

The Mom Spread Mom Spread-Close Up

This is the back page spread.  The color choice was inspired by Jenny Joseph’s poem “Warning: When I am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple.” This is the poem that spawned the Red Hat Society, of which my Mom was really quite fond.  I think the flamboyance intrigued her – although “flamboyant” would never be a word I would use to describe my Mom.  But she liked the poem quite a bit, so I dedicated the page with her picture to the color combination in the poem…

Love ya Mom – I miss you more every day.  ❤
